Wellbeing club gives calm environmentPosted: 17th July 2019
Children are learning to recognise their emotions with the launch of a wellbeing club.
Little Parndon Primary Academy has set up a calming environment for children to use when they feel they need time away from hectic school life.
Teachers have identified children who could benefit from the peaceful surroundings, but others are able to drop-in when they feel the need.
Pupils are able to use mindfulness colouring as a way of gathering themselves before returning to lessons.
Head of school Kirstie Clark said: “We are helping pupils to be aware of the times when they may feel angry. We are giving them somewhere to go to unwind, take some time out and to talk to a member of staff.
“If children find playtime too much or find they get angry or upset, they can take themselves in to the wellbeing club to calm down.
“Lunchtime plays a big part in preparing children for the afternoon and if it’s a negative experience it can set them up for a bad afternoon.
“This way, we are making sure they have somewhere to go and someone to speak to if they are feeling low.”
